The Divinity of Mahaprabhu

From a talk on January 12th 1983 in Śrī Caitanya Sāraswata Maṭha. Śrīla Śrīdhara Mahārāja talks about Viṣṇupriya’s Deity of Mahāprabhu and how the worship had to go underground due to protests from the local brāhmaṇa community that they were worshipping an ordinary man as God. Totarāma Dāsa Bābājī had a debate with local Śakta paṇḍitas establishing Mahāprabhu as God Himself. He proved this by quotations from the scriptures and also that the yuga-dharma is nama-saṅkīrtana.

What is real humility?

Knowledge means doubt!

Our substantial connection is with sraddha (faith). Knowledge on it’s own lands us in the realm of doubt, suspicion and fear - where one can be suspended in inaction from fear of being cheated. We are seeking the ultimate shelter of Sraddha-devi in whose company knowledge has no place. Illiteracy and lack of knowledge are no obstacles for one who has a real taste and real contact with sraddha.
